5 To increase value and worth of IEEE services and programs to young professionals and recent graduates. To promote and coordinate the establishment, support, and sustainability of GOLD Affinity Groups. To promote the GOLD program to students; recruit, develop and nurture volunteers. GOLD activities are focused on GOLD members need in the following fields. –Technical career building –Soft-skills training –Networking/mentoring etc. GOLD Vision

9 R10 GOLD Activities and achievements in 2007 1.The graduation event pilot program: GOLD launched a pilot program on the Student Transition Project in 2007. The main goal was to outreach the graduating students, introduce them to GOLD and the benefits of becoming a full member. First part of the project was to send out welcome letters to graduating students. The second part was to organize a Graduation Party for these students. – Bangladesh, Calcutta, Delhi, and Madras GOLD have organized graduation event in 2007 2.The GOLD Academic Professional Portal Project : The Goal is “Implement an Academic portal by updating the IEEE Job Site and make it a truly global service for GOLD members” and “Use IEEE channels within academic institutions globally to spread the word and source jobs”. – Twenty-four sections have nominated in R10

10 R10 GOLD Activities and achievements in 2007 3.March 2007 IEEE GOLDRush Newsletter: Four articles have been published from R10 GOLD. – Calcutta GOLD: "IEEE Calcutta GOLD AF Group Organized a Conference ReTIS-06 " – Hong Kong GOLD: "Technical visit to Lamma Winds" – Madras GOLD: "IEEE GOLD Affinity Group, Madras Section organizes Career Guidance Program and Seminar on Bio-Informatics " – Malaysia GOLD: "IEEE GOLD Malaysia Section 2006 Highlighted Events"'

11 Work in Progress R10 GOLD is still planning a newsletter and web-based seminar. Additionally, with the Region 10 GOLD logo, R10 GOLD is planning to run a competition for members to submit their designs and then pick the best one. R10 GOLD offer 200 USD*, there will be enough interest around R10 even. This involves the members and provides a sense of ownership. Hong Kong, Malaysia, and WA GOLD are planning to obtain supplies for gifts to hand out during their networking sessions/seminars as a way to improve awareness and promotion of their GOLD activities. This project is international activities in R10. R10 GOLD will support them. * All dollar figures subsequently quoted in this document are in USD unless otherwise specified.

14 Goals for 2008 Facilitate experience and expertise sharing through encouraging participation in R10 Student/GOLD/WIE Congress and global GOLD Summit – Sharing between different GOLD Affinity Groups (within R10 and globally) – Sharing between SBs/GOLD Groups/WIE Groups in R10 – Networking the world! – Experience sharing/support network to bounce ideas improves individual GOLD Group health and activity – Possible joint activities Establish a R10 GOLD Committee/Working Group – Improve coordination of GOLD activities within R10 – Develop young volunteers who become good candidates for other R10/HQ opportunities Continue to work on Work in Progress projects from 2007 Increase the value of GOLD membership by supporting other local initiatives Support MGA GOLD Committee initiatives

16 Key activities for 2008 R10 Student/GOLD/WIE Congress 28-30 Jan 2008 (Global) GOLD Summit18-19 Sep 2008 Establish a R10 GOLD Committee/Working Group Continue initiatives started in 2007 – Encourage greater exposure of R10 GOLD groups in GOLDRush Newsletter – Follow up inactive R10 GOLD Groups (regional clusters - delegate to committee members) Continue to work on Work in Progress projects from 2007 – R10 GOLD logo design competition – Improve and publicise recently established R10 GOLD website – Create a joint newsletter with WIE/Student activities – Web-based seminar

17 Successfully held Thank you to local organising committee chairs, Sampath (GOLD) and Ramalatha (WIE) R10 GOLD Congress 2008 Jan 28 - 40, 2008 in Chennai, India (to coincide with Student and Women in Engineering Congresses 2008) When and where Why Networking between GOLD groups within R10 Networking between SBs/GOLD/WIE Training and information for potential GOLD leaders Progress Subsidies R10 subsidised $700 per primary candidate towards registration, congress expenses, accommodation and travel under the GOLD budget Industry sponsorship support

19 One GOLD Summit Regional Leader appointed from each Region R10’s Regional Leader, Timothy Wong, will assist me by: – liaising with Regional ExCom – liaising with delegates in the Region (Global) GOLD Summit 2008 The MGA GOLD Committee is organizing the first GOLD Summit to be Held on Sept 18, 2008 in Quebec City, Canada (to coincide with Sections Congress 2008) When and where Why Networking between GOLD groups world-wide! To develop 3 or more active GOLD volunteers for each Region – training from GOLD Summit and Sections Congress Progress so far Subsidies RAB transferred $1000 to each region to cover registration fee of 3 GOLD delegates from their region to attend R10 will financially support accommodation, registration and travel costs for 5 GOLD representatives to attend this and Sections Congress
