3 CHANGES How are our students changing? How has our discipline changed?

4 OUR STUDENTS Our students have and will continue to influence education:  As students, these digital natives have forced learning institutions to communicate and educate in new ways  93% of students conduct research assignments online rather than going to a library  32% of higher education students are taking at least one online course

5 OUR STUDENTS  For the most part, have never not had the internet  Care about different parts of the world & international perspectives  Are comfortable working with people they have never met

6 IN THE UNITED STATES:  90% of faculty are using social media in courses they are teaching  20% of faculty have assigned students to comment or post on social media sites  80% of faculty report using online videos in class
