3. What is it Intensive Programme. Cooperation of 14 universities within the Utrecht Network Now entering a new three year phase involving 16 partners universities. IP supports a Summer School

4. IP IP provides financial support under specific headings (with ceilings for each amount) Administration Subsistence and accommodation Travel

Activity Principal activity is to run a multinational, multidisciplinary summer school. 2008 – Belfast on the theme of Minorities and Participation For the next three years this is on the theme of the Borders of Europe. Invite 40-50 students from the partner universities; aims for a balance between universities Multinational teaching team of 14-16 from the participating universities

Activity The School has an Academic Committee which includes the IP coordinator and representatives from the hosting universities AC decides on curriculum for the summer school AC selects teachers, usually following a call for teachers circulated to UN universities Teachers selected to fit in with the curriculum, but also with a view to ensuring balance between the universities and disciplines

7. Activity Intensive programme, so curriculum related events all day during the week, with some social events in evening and weekend. Curriculum related events: keynote address by international expert, lectures by teachers followed by workshops / small group activity (moot courts, poster activity, etc.), negotiation exercises, talks by local actors (ngos, politicians), study visits

8. Activity Social activities included taxi tours, visits to North Coast and Derry/Londonderry, Stormont, and a closing dinner in Stormont.

9. Benefits for students Exposure to international experts, and to the benefits of multinational and multidisciplinary perspectives Interaction with students from different cultures and disciplines Exposure to a variety of different teaching techniques (many students tell us they have never done workshops before). Credit recognition in some universities

12. Research Able to use the Summer School to host an authors conference in the intervening weekend. Teachers submitted drafts of their papers before this conference. Comments on the drafts by the authors. Redrafting of papers. 13. Other issues Considerable administration involved. IP administrative money can be used to hire assistants or administrators On site visit by the national agency Final report and auditing process
