2001 Mars Odyssey page 1 W o r k s h o p H E N D - 2003 Institute for Space Research, June 9 - 11, 2003 Comparison between neutron data from HEND and gamma-ray data from GRS S. Charyshnikov, M. Litvak, V. Grinkov, A. Kozyrev, A. Sanin I. Mitrofanov, V. Tret’yakov Institute for Space Research

2001 Mars Odyssey page 2 W o r k s h o p H E N D - 2003 Institute for Space Research, June 9 - 11, 2003 SCHEME 1.Correlation between epithermal and fast neutron flux and intensity of induced activity lines (Mg-1369, Ti-1381) as markers of neutron flux. 2.Correlation between epithermal and fast neutron flux and natural radioactivity lines (K-1461). 3.Correlation between epithermal and fast neutron flux and inelastic scatter gamma-ray lines (Si-1779).

2001 Mars Odyssey page 3 W o r k s h o p H E N D - 2003 Institute for Space Research, June 9 - 11, 2003  Take GRS spectra of surface of Mars for pixels 10x10 degree for time period: 08.06.2002 00:00:00 UTC  09.02.2003 13:00:00 UTC SOURCE DATA

2001 Mars Odyssey page 4 W o r k s h o p H E N D - 2003 Institute for Space Research, June 9 - 11, 2003  Pick lines of Mg-1369, Ti-1381, K-1461, Si-1779 out spectra. SOURCE DATA

2001 Mars Odyssey page 5 W o r k s h o p H E N D - 2003 Institute for Space Research, June 9 - 11, 2003  Subtract background from each selected line  Calculate intensity of these lines SOURCE DATA

2001 Mars Odyssey page 6 W o r k s h o p H E N D - 2003 Institute for Space Research, June 9 - 11, 2003  Make epithermal and fast neutron flux maps for the same time interval: 08.06.2002 00:00:00 UTC  09.02.2003 13:00:00 UTC SOURCE DATA
