Professional Terms WWW --- world wide web, it is a collection of interconnected computers that offers text, graphics, sounds and video images. URL (Uniform Resource Locator)--- means the web address. Web browser --- in interface tool that enables you to visit the web sites and see pictures and images, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape. Hypertext or hyperlinks --- the linked text, buttons or graphics on which you can click to surf web pages. Web Server---The equipment that host the website. Web Space---The physical space in web server that can hold the amount of the data.

Domain Name and Host Name http://www.aamu.edu The “aamu” is a host name. The “edu” is a domain name. The same is to www.msn.com, www.census.org, www.ed.gov, and http://stinet.dtic.mil

Commonly Used Search Engines yahoo.com --- It is the most and largest comprehensive of all the subject directories. It is very good at providing information for the masses, such as sports, current news, stock quotes, etc. askjeeves.com and answers.com --- They are unique subject directory search engines. Each allows the user to enter a question in a plain English, or select from the list of the most popular questions, or dropdown menu for the user to choose. google.com --- It is the most powerful search engine with 35 billion of searched pages each time. It is multimedia effective. bing.com --- A powerful multimedia and information search engine.

Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 Two negations of the world wide web Web 1.0, the first generation of the world wide web, mainly provides information, like information in text, color, graphics, photos, animation, video, sound, etc. (A sample site for Tech class, a sample Social Studies site )A sample site for Tech classa sample Social Studies site Web 2.0, is the second generation of the tools enhanced world wide web. It mainly provide online interaction, collaboration, joint work, effective tools for people to use.
