Reference databases A reference database contains information about all journal articles or books published in the major journals and at the most important publishing houses When you search for a specific topic in a reference database you will find references to journal articles or books. A reference to a journal article is simply a statement of the publication details (author, title, name of journal, volume, issue, pages, DOI) that allow you to pin-point this specific item and find the full-text. Reference databases generally don’t contain the full-text themselves, although often there are links from references in the database to the electronic full text.

Exercises How many journal articles authored by Augustin Banyaga can you find in MathSciNet and zbMATH respectively? Which is Augustin Banyagas most cited publication? How many citations? Give the results from both MathSciNet and zbMATH. How many books authored by Augustin Banyaga can you find in MathSciNet and zbMATH respectively? How many references can you find that have been tagged with the software program R (only in zbMATH)?
33
Search for references for journal articles about coloring graphs that are published after 2010. How many in MathSciNet and zbMATH respectively if you search by MSC? How would you perform a search using words only? [Hint: American and English spelling differs] Is the journal "International Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics" indexed in MathSciNet and zbMATH respectively? Is the journal "Utilitas Mathematica" indexed in MathSciNet and zbMATH respectively? Can you find references to any publication on algebraic geometry, published in 2015, and which has used the software PARI/GP?
