1 IRE Studies Designed To Improve the NH Board of Nursing Processes Margaret Walker, Ed.D., RN Executive Director N. H. Board of Nursing

2 Year One A Study of Regulatory Procedures and Issues for the Membership of NCSBN As a new Executive Officer, the question of how other boards function, their processes, agenda formation, and board outcomes were of interest. This correlation study was designed to assess the NH Boards effectiveness in relationship to other jurisdictions.

3 Year Two Efficacy of Individualized Contracts with Licensees in Recovery Programs The purpose of this study was to determine how NH would implement an Alternative Program that would assist licensees experiencing physical, psychological, and /or impairment issues.

4 Year Three Efficacy of Individualized Contracts for Impaired Licensees having Disciplinary Contracts with the NH Board of Nursing This study measured licensee perception of disciplinary contracts with the board as a basis for the licensees continued recovery and ability to remain in the profession.

5 Purpose and planning Year One collected facts related to board operations in other jurisdictions. The data assisted with board direction for meeting agenda planning. Year Two queried other jurisdictions on the existence of impairment programs, the model used and the effectiveness of individualized programs. Year Three intent assessed the impact of board orders on licensees with drug/alcohol impairment and the relationship the order has on licensee recidivism, competency and successful employment.

6 Research Questions Allowed information that would assist specific needs for the NH Board of Nursing in its plans to formulate change. Measurement design used likert-type questions that provided organized data and ease in development of graphic presentation. Questions were formulated to elicit information that was measurable and useful

7 Conclusions Validated the commitment and cooperation of other member boards. Assisted in making valuable changes to the NH processes in need of improvement. Results from surveys and research analysis provided timely data to board members when making decisions for change.
