How to reach out to someone new Quantify how much time you are going to take. Start by offering praise, not requesting help. Keep your emails short. If you must ask a favor, then ask for permission to continue. The Art of Networking http://passivepanda.com/networking-tips7

How to build the relationship. Try to provide as much value as you possible can. Start by focusing on being friendly and helpful. Develop the habit of introducing people. Ask if people want to be connected. Nurture your current network. The Art of Networking http://passivepanda.com/networking-tips8

Things to remember Network with the intention of helping others, not yourself. Networking is more about listening to what people say than saying the right things.
