NMISTC Report March 26, 2011 2 NMISC elections We have five new NMISC members: Adam Alessio, University of Washington Freek Beekman, TU-Delft Jennifer Huber, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Jinhun Joung, Korea University Andrew Reader, Montreal Neurological Institute Their terms started 1 January 2011 and will continue until 31 December 2013.

NMISTC Report March 26, 2011 5 IEEE Life Sciences Initiative Web portal setup by IEEE to direct people to the various Life Science activities within IEEE Survey was conducted in December 2010 NMISTC members that expressed an interest to be part of this initiative: Alberto Del Guerra - Life Sciences New Initiative Project Team Georges El Fakhri - Life Sciences New Initiative Editorial Board Paul Lecoq - technical statements or consultation for policy makers - emerging technologies

NMISTC Report March 26, 2011 6 2010 Medical Imaging Conference Summary 2010, Knoxville, Tennessee: 1985 Total Attendees NSS/MIC 1092 from North America (MIC abstracts: 280; regions 1-7) 623 from Europe (MIC abstracts: 227; region 8) 15 from Latin and South America (MIC abstracts: 3; region 9) 255 from Asia (MIC abstracts: 93; region 10)

7. NMISTC Report March 26, 2011 7 Medical Imaging Conference status and plans 2011, Valencia, Spain: David Townsend is General Chair; Alberto Del Guerra is MIC Program Chair. The conference has requested an additional loan of $90K. This was due to large prepayment costs for many of the in country contracted services and delays in receiving monies from conference sponsors. This additional loan request has been approved after conference organizers provided justification for the need. The budget is still valid, the need for the additional loan was due to cash flow issues. The Hilton hotel (one of the conference hotels) has changed ownership and new negotiations have been started with the new owner. Abstract submission is open for the meeting (Abstract deadline: 10 May 2011).

8. NMISTC Report March 26, 2011 8 Medical Imaging Conference status and plans 2012, Anaheim, CA: Tom Lewellen is General Chair; Vesna Sossi is MIC Program Chair. Organizing committee had an on-site meeting 5 March 2011. Meeting was attended by MIC, NSS, and RTSD Chairs and Deputy Chairs, etc. The Disneyland Hotel is undergoing renovation that will be complete before the meeting. Conference poster is being finalized.

9. NMISTC Report March 26, 2011 9 Medical Imaging Conference status and plans 2013, Seoul, Korea: Hee-Joung Kim is General Chair; Jae Sung Lee is MIC Program Chair. Contract with convention venue (COEX, Seoul) is still pending, but expected to be completed soon. Budget has been approved and IEEE Advance paid. Conference poster has been made and some were distributed at last Fall's IEEE MIC meeting.

10. NMISTC Report March 26, 2011 10 Medical Imaging Conference status and plans Some highlights are: 2014: Seattle, Washington. Tony Lavietes is General Chair. 2015: Site to be determined. Some members of Site Selection Committee with be visiting Strasbourg, France. Other potential European sites are the Netherlands or England. Also looking at possible backup site in US on the East Coast. 2016: Site to be determined. Expecting a proposal from China.
