Exam Technique Types of Questions: Comprehension This is where you have to show that you understand sources. E.g What can learn from sources A and B about the effects of the Depression? To answer these questions you must refer to both the sources.

Comprehension in Context These questions are asking you to use your own knowledge and the sources. E.g. Using the sources and your own knowledge explain how Hyperinflation effected the Weimar government? You must refer to the sources in your answer, but to get the higher marks you must include your own knowledge.

Value/Usefulness/Utility These questions are asking you to compare sources and evaluate them. These questions carry the most marks. Again you must use the sources in your answer and you MUST evaluate them. Questions now ask the ‘value’ of a source e.g. Are the sources of value to someone enquiring about how Hitler came to power in 1933? You have to use the sources and your own knowledge to say how valuable/useful the sources are. You need to look at the providence of the source - who wrote it, when was it written, bias of source.

Essay Questions These are the ones you spend the longest on. – Make sure you have left enough time! You will be given 3 bullet points to help you – don’t just repeat these in your answer. You must explain them and add more information. Make sure your conclusion focuses on the question you are being asked.

Revision Questions Between 1924 – 1929 the Nazi party made little progress. Do you agree? How did the Nazi party develop its ideas and organisation up to 1929?
