How We Address These Issues The Hiring Process  Recruit candidates from the very first contact  Extensive phone screens are critical to our hiring strategy  We changed our approach from recruiting the candidate to recruiting the entire family unit  Most interviews take place on a Friday so the candidate and spouse have the weekend to live “The Albuquerque Experience”

How We Address These Issues The Hiring Process  The on-site interview team consists of a minimum of 5 people to a maximum of 7 from cross functional teams  Significant amount of time spent discussing company culture and benefits vs. previous work experiences  If we decide to hire the candidate the family receives “A Taste of Albuquerque” basket a few days after they return home.  Offers of employment are made ASAP – sometimes before the candidate leaves the building/town

How We Address These Issues Trailing Spouse Employment  We partner with various contract agencies to assist with spousal employment  Occasionally we hire the spouse too but there are potential serious downsides with this approach  Spousal coaching – resume writing – interview skills etc.

How We Address These Issues Adjusting to the New Location  Established “Spousal Network”  Group of spouses who have relocated to Albuquerque – each with a different demographic  We match spouses with someone in the network with a similar background so they can talk openly about relocation concerns.  New Hire Orientation  Spouses are invited to attend  Building tours so both new employee and spouse get a feel for the work environment  Orientation is generally half a day followed by lunch with the hiring manger and team
