1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Wireless Network Adapter Installation Installing a RoamAbout PC card requires the same level of knowledge required to install any standard Ethernet adapter card. A basic understanding of the operating system which you are working with is necessary to ensure a smooth installation. This overview will discuss installations on both Windows 95 and NT workstation 4.0 operating systems

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Installation on Windows 95 Since Windows 95 is a plug- and-play compatible operating system, the wireless adapter installation is very simple Ensure the PCMCIA slot is empty and put the wireless adapter into the empty slot

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Installation on Windows 95 The operating system should automatically discover the new adapter and prompt you to install the driver Select Next to continue with the installation

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Installation on Windows 95 At this point select the Other Locations tab to install the driver from the disk provided

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Installation on Windows 95 At this point select the Other Locations tab to install the driver from the disk provided Select the floppy disk and press OK

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Installation on Windows 95 At this point select the Other Locations tab to install the driver from the disk provided Select the floppy disk and press OK The device will now install the device driver

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout NIC Configuration Windows 95 Once the driver is loaded the RoamAbout 802.11 Settings window will open From here you can configure the settings: –At the Basic tab you need to enter the Wireless network name for that network –If you want the Ad-Hoc mode, you should select the appropriate option Note: The Wireless Network Name has to be consistent with the rest of the network

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout NIC Configuration Windows 95 The Driver Type should already have defaulted to the proper driver mode

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout NIC Configuration Windows 95 In the Bindings section select the desired services that you want to bind to the driver

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout NIC Configuration Windows 95 If RTS/CTS mode of operation is desired, you would turn Medium Reservation on In the Advanced window it shouldn’t be necessary to change anything else for typical installation

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout NIC Configuration Windows 95 If you want Power management, here is where you would select it. –Note: if your device has a hard drive device such as a lap top computer, the power savings in the power management mode would be insignificant –If the device has a static storage device the power savings may be significant

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout NIC Configuration Windows 95 The final step is to click OK and let the services bind to the driver –At this point you may be asked to insert the Windows 95 CD so that the services may be loaded –If this occurs then just follow the prompt Now right-click on Network Neighborhood, and assign the IP address as you would for any other NIC installation

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Installation on Windows NT 4.0 Prior to installing the wireless network interface card onto your NT 4.0 workstation You should perform the following steps: –Enabling the PC card controller –Running Windows NT diagnostics –Enabling network support

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Enabling the PC Card Controller From the Control Panel –Double-click on the PC card to open the PC card Properties window –Note: here that the card is recognized; however, there are no drivers loaded yet so the card itself is disabled.

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Verifying the I/O port and IRQ settings Verify the I/O port and IRQ settings since NT 4.0 is NOT plug-and-play capable. From Administrative Tools click NT Diagnostics –Note that the factory settings for the RoamAbout NIC are I/O port 03040-037F IRQ 10 –These may require changing if there is a conflict Note that here in fact there would be a conflict with the IRQ of 10.

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Verifying the I/O Port and IRQ Settings Once you have verified the settings, you may need to select another (unused) IRQ and or I/O port. Which is discussed later in this presentation. Take note of the new value that you will use if you are going to change the defaults

1999 Cabletron Systems Wireless Networking RoamAbout Installing the NIC driver NT Workstation 4.0 To install the NIC driver –Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon –Click on the Adapters tab
