Three common forms of prayer 1. Vocal prayer 2. Meditation 3. Contemplative prayer. Know these for mid- term

Types of Vocal Prayer 1. Blessing (Eph 1:3) 2. Adoration (homage) (Ps 95:6) 3. Supplication or Petition (Col 4:12) 4. Contrition (asking forgiveness) (Lk 18:13) 5. Intercession (1 Tm 2:1) 6. Thanksgiving (1 Thes 5:18) 7. Praise (Eph 3:20) Know 4 of these but be able to give an example of ALL 7

Good sources of prayer: 1. Scripture see next slide 2. Church's liturgy (prayers and sacraments) 3. The virtues of faith, hope and love (dispositions to prayer)

You don’t need to list the 3 sources of prayer for the exam, but you will need to be able to give an example of a scripture quote that can serve as a prayer. (and be able to show how it can be used) You may use one of the examples given in class but it might be nice if you could come up with one of your own.

(3). Contemplative (mental) Prayer is unspoken prayer in which a person is united to God and ponders his truths. To dwell in the presence of God. To be aware of God with us at all times. Heightened awareness. Sum this all up in one definition.

Judgment Wrong to pass judgment on others. But must make judgments of actions in order to make moral decisions. It is more wrong to judge another than the thing we are judging. “Don’t take the speck out of another’s eye until you take the plank out of your own.” Know why Jesus makes the pieces of wood different sizes.
