2 Page 1 Project Management Project management consists of five processes:  Initiating  Planning  Executing  Controlling  and Closing In addition, there are nine knowledge areas that center on management expertise in:  Project Integration  Project Scope  Project Time  Project Cost  Project Quality  Project Human Resources  Project Procurement  Project Communications  And Project Risk Management

3 Page 2 Requirements for the PMP Exam ·You must fulfill both experience and education requirements (supporting documentation is required): Bachelor's degree and 4,500 hours of PM experience in the five process groups OR If you do not hold a bachelor's degree you must have a high school diploma and 7,500 hours of PM experience in the five process groups. And ·You must have 35 contact hours of classroom instruction that relate to project management objectives. Several types of courses fulfill this requirement. ·Pass the PMP exam. The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions and must be completed in four hours. ·Maintain continuing certification requirements consisting of 60 Professional Development Units (PDU). Usually, one PDU is earned for every one hour spent in a planned, structured learning experience or activity.

9 Page 8 Risk Management & Contingency Planning Risk Event 001 Risk Event: Not meeting the PMP Requirements to be able to sit for the exam. Risk Consequence: While I feel I meet the minimum requirements, my job is mainly Financial in nature. There is a risk that the PMI will not agree with my work experience. Prevention Plan/Contingency Action: Become more active in other aspects of Project Management and heavily document my experience when applying. Risk Event 002 Risk Event: Time schedule is too aggressive Risk Consequence: Will not be able to take the exam within two months. Prevention Plan/Contingency Action: After the second module of the web-based training – reevaluate time commitments to review material. Also, extend study hour times and day (longer weekend, add Friday’s). Risk Event 003 Risk Event: Web-based training is not adequately preparing me for the exam. Risk Consequence: Setting myself up for failure. Prevention Plan/Contingency Action: Perform a due diligence on additional study resources and their associated schedules and costs. Go through the modules and take test on the information given to determine if I understand the material. Do not go past module 4 if the subject matter is not conducive for me. Reevaluate immediately and fall back on the contingency plan based on the due diligence of alternative study material
