PARTICIPATION IN DISABILITY SPORT A Quote… “finding suggests that children’s emotional and behavioral (sic) functioning is associated with parents’ perceptions of barriers to participation that are more psychosocial than physical or structural in nature. The influence of children’s emotional and behavioral difficulties on their participation has seldom been addressed with respect to children with disabilities. Parents may be aware that their children are less confident and more hesitant to take part in activities in the community and school because of past experiences of discrimination or avoidance by others. Parents themselves may be more hesitant in taking their child into the community either because they are concerned about how their child might react to others or that members of the community will view their child’s behavior negatively.”
