21 st Century 2.0 Project The 21 st Century 2.0 Project will engage one academy of teachers in training, planning and exploring the use of various technologies in a 1:1 learning environment, creating a model for launching Hillview in an environment rich with tools to promote 21 st Century learning and thinking skills.

Purposes Of The Project Provide an opportunity for highly motivated teachers with the necessary resources of training, time for planning, collegial support, and equipment and materials to explore and experiment with strategies to maximize learning of students within a 1:1 learning environment. Assist the District in defining and standardizing appropriate and relevant instructional strategies and uses of technology as a resource for students and teachers in a 21 st Century learning environment. Develop an academy of teachers who will have the necessary expertise and passion to demonstrate new models for learning, and serve as resources and mentors for colleagues.

Expectations Of Teachers In Project Rethink how teaching and learning happens in their classrooms in light of having access to technology for every student Meet regularly as a group to collaborate on this project Communicate with department team regarding content area decisions Provide input for several key decisions that need to made for the new school What type and how much professional development is needed to provide on-going support for teachers? Which resources/tools are needed to create a 21 st century learning environment? Visit model schools to explore best practices Collaborate with other teachers in like programs

The Technologically Enriched Environment The 21 st Century 2.0 Academy will receive: 1 iPad for each student and teacher 1 laptop cart per academy 1 document camera for each classroom Hardware and software for each content area, such as, probe-ware for Science, keyboards for writing, graphing calculators for math, etc.

+ Research & Information Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

+ Communication & Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

+ Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

+ Creativity & Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

+ Digital Citizenship & Technology Operations & Concepts Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.

Project Evaluation: Teaching & Learning How has 1:1 access affected the ways in which teachers teach (plan lessons, give assignments, interact with students, etc.)? How has 1:1 access affected how students learn (interact with teachers and students, complete homework, level of engagement, etc.)? How was learning impacted by the iPads? Could the same learning have happened without the technology? How has 1:1 access changed the way teachers address the diverse needs of learners at all ability levels? What are the benefits and limitations of each technology tool being used in the pilot?

Project Evaluation: Operations & Logistics Which resources best met the teaching and learning needs? What tools are needed for an individual, for a classroom, for an academy? How do we provide access to students beyond the school day? Has it made the environment more green? Less printing? Less ink? What are issues related to organization, storage, security of devices?
