5.  Boxer Uprising- 1899 group of martial artists tried to kick westerners out › Failed uprising › Forced China to do more Western reforms  By the early 1900’s reformers called for a republic

6.  Sun Yixan-became president of the New Chinese republic › Had his three principals of the people:  Nationalism  Democracy  Economic security (livelyhood)
