Festivals Festivals like the Birthday of Buddha and Chinese new year are celebrated in China. The Birthday of the Buddha is c. 563 BCE or 623 BCE approx. Chinese new year’s dates depend on the animals on the Chinese Zodiac Calender
7
Traditions These include The Cheng Chua Festival (it is a tradition to do this), Tuen Ng and some others. Traditions are kind of like festivals but are more to belief than historical events like The Birth of Buddha. This Pie Graph shows the sudden 4.5% increase in agriculture back in the 1950’s.
8
Celebrations Celebrations are like festivals and traditions. For example, Chinese New Year is a festival and a celebration, whereas The Buddha’s Birthday is a tradition and a celebration because it celebrates the day Buddha went to heaven and it is a sort of tradition to celebrate it.
9
Customs Respect over elderly is a custom in China. Many others have been there or added in by Westerners. Greetings are very common in China, although handshakes are relatively new. Bringing gifts is also a good custom.

Mountains A large part of China is made up of high plateau that is broken up by mountain ranges. Because the plateau’s height average is about 4,000 metres, it is sometimes called the roof of the world. Much of the mountainous ranges are uninhabited because of the lack of oxygen and the cold climate, resulting in a place very bad for crops. Deserts In China, there is so little rain fall in China that there are large areas of desert. Along the old desert route between China and central Asia (the Silk Road), oases supply water to help farmers grow crops. 13
Rivers Many floods are occurring in rivers between Beijing and Shanghai. This has caused a lot more deaths than anywhere in the world, so it has been nicknamed ‘China’s sorrow’. Many dams are in place, but deaths are still occurring.
14
Coastline Many rivers interconnect with others and the ocean. If a meteorite were to strike the earth’s oceans, the pulse would create tsunamis, but, still importantly, the people on the coastline would be killed. The pulse would also create an earthquake, where the hypocenter focus would be the centre of the these shockwaves.
15
Environmental issues Many Environmental issues are happening here in China, such as summer typhoons, earthquakes and volcanoes (Info: China is on the Ring of Fire).Earthquakes, Tsunamis, summer typhoons and Volcanism are all possible in this threatened country where any disaster is possible.
