Chapter Overview 13 January 2011 North Star Chapter 8 Why sign in? For the past several years we have had the chapter incentive program to encourage attendance at our meetings. For 2011, a $50 gift certificate for BP gasoline will be awarded to every member attending six or more regular meetings or who brings one new member into the chapter. (Note – You must be a member in good standing for the entire year to qualify) For guests or members attending for the first time, this also insures your notification by email of all subsequent events. Chapter Overview 13 January 2011 North Star Chapter Dr. Qiao received his BSEE from Beijing University of Technology, his MS and PhD degrees from Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. He has held positions of increasing technical and management responsibility, beginning with the Automotive Systems Division of Hitachi Corporation from 1995-96; Manager for Advanced Technology Systems and Manager of e-Business for Toyota Canada Inc. from 1997-2001. From 2002-2010, he was principally involved with building and leading Toyota's North America R&D, where he served as General Manager and Chief Technologist. As Technical Director for the 3M SEMS Corporate Research Lab, he is responsible for an approximately 200 person global operation that provides exceptional value to 3M through research, external relationships and commercialization excellence. By partnering with 3M business units, SEMS develops and incorporates new technologies into integrated customer solutions resulting in new and expanded growth opportunities. Dr. Liu Qiao 9
