1
Confidence In Our Salvation 1 John 5:13-15
2
There are some things that we can know for sure Death? Taxes? Junk will find its way back into the house. God made little green apples.
3
How Confident Are We In Our Salvation? John tells us there are some things we can know for sure. The more doubts we have the less likely we are to share our faith or live for God.
4
Know You Have Eternal Life 1 John 5:13 -- I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
5
John wrote so we can be confident. 1 John 1:4 – We write this to make our joy complete. Eyewitness testimony. He is faithful and just to forgive us. We have an advocate with the Father. We have an atoning sacrifice. We have love as a barometer of our faith. We have overcome the evil one. We have the anointing of His word.
6
“…believe in the name of the Son of God Greek is EIS TO ONOMA – “into” or “on” Usual word for IN is EN. Matthew 28:19 -- …baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit… (EIS TO ONOMA) Acts 2:38 -- …in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ… (EPI TO ONOMA)
7
We believe in the name of the Son of God The power for salvation is with Jesus. We depend upon His righteousness for salvation, not our own. His blood cleanses us and makes us clean. His blood continually washes the repentant sinner.
8
We KNOW God hears our prayers. 1 John 5:14 -- This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
9
This is the confidence we have… 2:28 -- And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. 4:17 -- This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.
10
This is the confidence we have… 3:21-22 -- Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
11
Confidence Begets Testimony Ephesians 3:12 -- In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. Hebrews 4:16 -- Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
12
Our prayers are offered according to God’s will, not our desires. James 4:2-3 -- You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. 3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
13
Know That God Answers Our Prayers 1 John 5:15 -- And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
14
Mark 11:24 -- Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 14:12-14 -- Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
