2 Objectives of this Course 1.Students will be able to learn the following commonly used tools for instructional purposes: Microsoft Word (Word Processing, document editing, graphic editing, desktop publishing, etc.) PowerPoint (slide show, text, graphics, animation, animation, sound effects, music background, multimedia in PPT, etc.) Excel (grade book, spreadsheet, formulas, functions, statistics, etc.) Access (personnel Database, student record, input data into Word) Internet use (network concept, search engines, instructional website evaluation and integration of online learning resources, etc.) Webpage design (creating web pages, online graphics) Graphics Design (painting, graphing, animation, etc.)

3 Objectives continued Students will learn about the following concepts, theories, perspectives and trends on educational technology integration The multimedia for instruction Instructional design with technology aids Distance education Online learning resources Learning theories in a technology-driven classroom Instructional methods/strategies in a technology-assisted learning environment

4 Regulations & Rules You are encouraged to purchase a flash disk (or jump drive) Attendance in class (or in Blackboard) is required and graded. Participation in discussion is required, diverse perspectives and creative opinions are welcome and highly valued. Extra help by appointment after class (or by email or discussion board) Communication by in-class or online interactions, email, & phone, online discussion Prompt teacher to repeat if unable to follow. Tell the teacher your needs & special needs. Cooperative learning is effective and advocated. Be attentive in class, no cell phones, no Facebook, no chitchat. Clean the desk trash and shut down computers when leaving. Keep peers’ emails and phone numbers as needed. Bookmark FED 529 course website or search “Dr. Sha Li” by search engine

5 Where to get your AAMU email You can obtain your AAMU email from the following labs’ assistants: Carter Hall Computer Lab Hopkins Hall Computer Lab Library (LRC) Computer Lab School of Business Computer Lab West Hall Computer Lab They will give you email user name and password. You need to write them down in a notebook. Failure to obtain an AAMU email will result in not receiving important information and unable to logon to Blackboard.

6 Expected Learning style When learning projects, write down each steps in case you’ll forget. The teacher could repeat the hard processes, but nobody could remember so much. Tell the teacher and classmates next to you if you have a need. Explore on the computer to know something on your own. Finish your assignments within the due time. Discuss and share with people about the new things or something you discovered. Post learning related information in Discussion or share your experiences. Feel free to contact the teacher in Blackboard or by phone.

7 High Expectation You are expected to learn, perform and behave to a higher level of expectation You are expected to learn a lot and experience a lot You are expected to learn from peers: cooperative learning is always effective You are expected to help others who are struggling You are expected to give feedback/responses to the instructor: on your needs, students’ feedbacks and your expectations You are encourage to spend time and log on the Blackboard account quite often

For the online class, students need to open a Skype account for the face to face communication online in Skype. You need to tell your teacher your Skype Name for him to reach you.

9 The Happy Side and Hard Side of this Class You get interested and empowered during and after this class. Your attitude toward using computers will be changed when you exit from this class. Most students just like this class because they value technology in life. But you might get frustrated at first if your computer skill is low or you are not familiar with Blackbard. You feel more comfortable late. Not everybody get frustrated in this class, because many of them either have a higher level of technology and high expectation of themselves.

10 Memo Grade “I” policy A student must finish at least 70% of tasks to be qualified to get an “I” for Incompletion. Or else, there might be an “F.” An “F” can not be changed to any other grades once it is given. Grade “F” policy If a student cannot get an “I” for incomplete, then get an “F.” If a student gets an “F,” he/she must retake the class, or say, pay the class again to take it again.
