2 Purpose of the Interview
“Job Interview” is the face-to-face meeting between you and an employer Generally the last and most important step in the job- seeking process Could last from 15 minutes to over an hour depending the job This is your chance to “sell” what you can do for the employer During the interview the employer will judge your qualifications, appearance, and behavior You decide if the position meets YOUR job goals and interests

Review you online reputation Practice your interviewing skills Learn about the company Assemble needed materials Consider your appearance Check last minute details

4 1. Review Your Online Reputation
Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc Many companies are using social networking sites to as part of their interviewing and background checking process Employers want employees to be successful on the job and not be an embarrassment Primary information employers look for: Drinking and drug use Offensive language/inappropriate pictures Discriminatory remarks Unprofessional screen names

5 2. Practice Your Interview Skills
Practice! Practice! Practice! Being prepared makes you a little less nervous Be prepared to answer questions about Yourself Your skills Why you want to work there What you know about the company Favorite subject in school Hobbies/Interests

6 3. Learn About the Company
Find out as much as possible Check for website Brochures/catalogs Visit the place Save questions about money for AFTER you have been offered the job Write up a list of questions that YOU will have for the interviewer about the job and company

7 4. Assemble Needed Materials
Create a folder or large envelope to bring with you Job Lead Card – has all of the employers contact information Extra copy of resume Copies of references Pen List of questions for the interviewer Samples of your work if applicable

8 5. Consider Your Appearance
Dressing to impress Proper grooming and personal hygiene Hair Body Nails No perfume/cologne Light meal before No gum! Conceal tattoo’s if possible No excessive piercings No smoking

9 6. Check Last-Minute Details
Date Time Place – drive there the day before Plan for traffic/construction Call to confirm date and time Arrive minutes early Introduce yourself to the receptionist DO NOT bring anyone with you!
