State Event Overview and Results 121 influential women attended 83% of attendees reported that they are more knowledgeable about heart disease after attending

Results from 2010 Local INFluence Events 15 mini-grants awarded ranging from $250- $1,000 (total of $9,000 awarded) Attendance at all 15 local events totaled 2,919 women Response cards from 1,118 participants

Call to Action Intent In the post forum survey, respondents were asked to rate their intent to complete each of the INFluence Action Items on a scale from 1 to 5 “5” means they have every intention of successfully completing the action item “1” means they have no intention of completing the action item

Call to Action Completion In the 3 month survey, respondents were asked to rate their success in completing each of the INFluence Action Items on a scale from 1 to 5 “5” means they have successfully and fully completed the action item “1” means they have not made any progress on the action item

Action Item #1 – Know Your Numbers 75% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item # 1: Know your numbers. Visit your doctor for a yearly check- up and be aware of your cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and other indicators of heart health. Intent = 90.4%

Action Item #2 – Healthy Behaviors 54% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #2: Commit to improving you own heart health by doing at least one of the following – increasing physical activity, eating a more balanced and healthier diet, eliminating tobacco, managing stress more effectively. Intent = 92.8%

Action Item #3 – Early Warning Signs 67% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #3: Learn the early warning signs of a heart attack, especially those more common for women. Intent = 91.1%

Action Item #4 – Heart to Heart 23% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #4: Have a heart to heart with nine other women in your life. Share the INFluence message and ask them to complete the call to action as well. Intent = 60.8%

Action Item #5 – Role Model 36% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #5: Be a role model for heart-healthy living for your friends and family. Share your successes and challenges, giving and receiving support and inspiration. Intent = 79.9%

Action Item #6 – Implement Policy 30% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #6: Implement at least one heart- healthy policy or program in your organization. Make healthy eating, physical activity, and smoking cessation the easiest choice in your school, neighborhood, worksite, faith-based or community organization. Intent = 62.4%

Action Item #7 – Host an Event 30% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #7: Host a local INFluence forum to empower women in your community to positively impact heart health. Intent = 24.7%

Action Item #8 – Local Coalition 19% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #8: Form or join a local coalition to advocate for and coordinate community efforts to create a healthier environment. Intent = 34.0%

Action Item #9 – Statewide Efforts 15% of respondents reported a ranking of 4 or 5 for successfully and fully completing Action Item #9: Maintain a network to coordinate statewide efforts aimed at increasing awareness of gender differences, improving policy, and leveraging funds for heart health promotion in Indiana. Intent = 32.4%

Suggestions for the Future of the INFluence Initiative Making amendments to mini-grant application to reflect changes after award notification Online toolkit should feature files that can be easily adapted by local grantees Evaluation of resources emailed out to participants using listserv on achieving the Action Items Promote INFluence using social media Identifying INFluence as an ongoing, year-round initiative rather than a one-day event using coalition development

Suggestions for Future INFluence Evaluation Problems with post-forum survey and response card strategy Updating the Call to Action list Editing survey questions to appropriately measure behavior change Educating local communities on what topics speakers should cover – that relate to survey questions Length of 3 month survey

Conclusion More than 80% of 3 month survey respondents report sharing the INFluence message with one or more women Participants in an INFluence program are spreading the message of heart health to other women in their circle of INFluence.
