National Standards for Physical Education STANDARD #1: The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. STANDARD #2: The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance. STANDARD #3: The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and the skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness. CLARK LANE Physical Education WE WILL EXPLORE a wide variety of physical activities which improves fitness, skills, and promotes enjoyment through social interaction. WE WILL DEVELOP skills to participate respectfully and productively in physical activity settings. WE WILL PARTICIPATE in integrated outdoor education activities (Orienteering/Compass reading activities, learn about local environmental concerns) and Project Adventure. WE WILL ENHANCE self-expression and creativity through dance opportunities.

FITNESS TESTING Each fall, we as a P.E. staff conduct a series of physical fitness tests to all students at Clark Lane Middle School in the areas of Muscular Strength (Push-ups), Muscular Endurance (Curl-ups), Cardiorespiratory Endurance (Mile Run/PACER) and Flexibility (Sit and Reach). Student results are then compared to state goals based on age and gender, and then compiled results are submitted to the state. Below are the four assessments and goals students will try to meet. These results identify areas of strengths and weaknesses that drive the design of our monthly warm-ups and progress and improvement is monitored throughout the school year. YOU are RESPONSIBLE for your actions or inactions! It is YOUR responsibility to follow the rules and procedures of the physical education classroom, and OUR responsibility to make sure they are followed, for the success of the class. We will: Reinforce classroom expectations. Remind you of those expectations. Redirect you so you can fulfill those expectations. If pattern persists, parent contact follows.

MOVE 60 MINUTES A DAY! In today’s technological world, students are moving less…so we encourage your child to “move 60 a day”…60 minutes of physical activity on a daily basis. With your support and continued encouragement to fulfill this goal for your child, the health benefits are not only physical, but mentally and emotionally as well. We are doing our best to create “life-long movers” that understand the value of exercise in their lives! Forming “Healthy Habits” Worksheets for Students and Parents Grade 7 Worksheet Grade 8 Worksheet Students in 7 th and 8 th grade are given a “Healthy Habits” worksheet in the spring to complete over a two week period that charts daily activities and food consumption so that students get a snapshot of the foods they are eating and how much exercise they are getting. This information helps students gain a real understanding of the impacts both nutrition and exercise have on the human body, so that it heightens awareness of how to live a healthy life. Parents are asked to monitor and be involved in this two week survey.
