3 © 2011 Some Research 86 % of businesses in Ontario are small businesses, employing less than 20 workers Study done in February 2009 by the Institute for Work and Health found: Small businesses lack knowledge of OHS rules Lack formal workplace systems and resources Policies and legislation don’t fit the reality of small businesses

7 © 2011 Workplace Inspections Your health and safety rep must do monthly inspections You’ll need a form – let’s go to Google Google You’ll need to train your rep on how to complete inspections Spot the Hazard

8 © 2011 Expanding your program Next, you need a program based on your hazards Answer the question, “what do you do in your workplace that can hurt workers?” Is it low, medium, or high risk work?
