2 Why should people learn to read? Should governments force the people of their country to learn to read? Why or why not? How might learning to read make one’s life better? How might not learning to read make one’s life more difficult?

3 What is “Literacy Rate?” What is “Standard of Living?” Is there a relationship between these two things? The amount of people in a country (over the age of 15) that can read & write. Usually given in a percentage. EX→ The Literacy Rate in the U.S.A. was 99% in 2003 The economic level of success achieved by a country. It is based on the availability of resources, such as: education, transportation, technology, healthcare, & other needs Yes…. Usually. For the most part, countries that have a high literacy rate also have a high standard of living. ↑LR = ↑SOL ↓LR = ↓SOL R17
