MIKETZ (AT THE END OF) Genesis/B’reisheet 41:1 – 44:17 “Joseph’s Dreams Come True”
5
Joseph in Egypt A few years later, Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, had a very disturbing dream. Joseph was sent to the palace. The Pharaoh told him about his dream.
7
Joseph’s Interpretations Joseph told the Pharaoh that God was going to bring a famine After seven years with plenty of food. During the seven good years, Joseph helped store grain. This was to prepare for the hard times that would come.
8
Joseph Sees His Brothers When they walked into the room, Joseph saw them! They did NOT recognize Joseph! Joseph decided to see if they had changed their ways.
9
Joseph Questions His Brothers Joseph wanted to know how his younger brother Benjamin was. He kept one of the brothers named Simeon until the other brothers brought back Benjamin. He also asked his workers to put money in the grain sack.
10
The Brothers Become Scared On the way home, the brothers found the money. They were scared. When they got home, they explained everything to Jacob. Jacob was very upset.
11
The Sons of Israel Return to Egypt So the brothers packed up double the payment, a few gifts, and Benjamin, and headed for Egypt. When they arrived, Joseph invited them to a banquet. Joseph decided to test his brothers, to see if they really had changed.
12
Joseph’s Silver Cup He told his workers to fill each sack with grain. Then he said to put his silver cup in Benjamin’s sack. Joseph sent some guards to find them. They told Joseph that they didn’t take the cup. They could not let Benjamin become a slave.
13
Judah Offers Himself Judah spoke up Joseph refused Judah’s offer. Benjamin would be made a slave for the stolen cup.
14
What can we Learn? Joseph tricked the brothers into thinking that Benjamin stole the silver cup He wanted to see if any of the brothers would protect Benjamin. Judah stepped forward to take the guilt of them all.
15
Genesis 44:16 “So Judah said, What can we say to my lord? What can we speak? And how can we justify ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants; behold, we are my lord's slaves, both we and the one in whose possession the cup has been found.”
16
Protecting the Weak We must help other children who are smaller or weaker than us. Just like Judah stepped up and helped Benjamin his younger brother, so we must step up and help others. We can also help protect them from bullies!
17
Bullying is NOT from God What is a bully? Have any of you have ever been bullied, or witnessed someone else being bullied? God does not want us to be a bully. God expects us to be different.
18
What Do You Do Just like Judah stood up to protect Benjamin Children should immediately stand up for the child being bullied and say words like, “Stop being mean to my friend!” If physical violence is involved, they should get immediate help from an adult nearby.
19
S.T.O.P. S - Stand up to the bully T - Take appropriate action to get away from the bully. O - Open up to a trusted adult in your life and tell them you are being bullied. P - Protect yourself from bullies by staying in groups, not walking home alone.
20
Our Final Action You don’t need to be bullied. We still must forgive them and not hate them. What Yeshua did for us, and we must do for others.
21
Mark: 11:25 Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions
22
Forgiveness is not easy It can be the most difficult thing to forgive others. We need to pray and ask God to help us forgive others, even when it is difficult to do. So we must stand-up and help those who are weaker or different than us.
23
Let's Learn Hebrew! “Selichah” In English this means “forgiveness”.
24
Romans 8:28 We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
25
What Did We Learn Today? Joseph ruled in Egypt second only to the Pharaoh. Joseph’s brothers bowed down to him, just as he had dreamed. Forgiveness is very important in our relationships with others
