FPC D AY 64 Bohr Model Practice

W ARM U P You have 11 minutes to draw the following table and using your periodic table fill in the blanks: NameSymbo l Atomic Number Number of Protons Number of Electrons Number of Neutrons How many valence electrons does it have? Carbon 19 S

L EARNING T ARGETS I can use the periodic table to create Bohr models and Lewis Dot Structures for any of the first 20 elements. (Level 4) I can explain how the light emitted (put out) by an energized hydrogen atom helped Bohr figure out his model

B OHR M ODEL P RACTICE DO: Complete the Bohr Models for the given elements. Raise your hand when you need more elements USE: Your notes from last class and work together TIME: 14 minutes WHEN DONE: Sign up for the element you want to build and obtain the Bohr Model Rough Draft

B UILDING THE M ODEL Each model must contain the following: Nucleus - Punch a hole in the card On one side – The number of protons and neutrons Other side - Your name and name of the element Electron Clouds: Use the fruit loops to represent electrons Energy Level 1: 2 electrons fill it, use one pipe cleaner Energy Level 2: 8 electrons fill it, use two pipe cleaners Energy Level 3: 8 electrons fill it, use three pipe cleaners Tie it all together with string, as demonstrated by your teacher.

B OHR M ODEL R OUGH D RAFT DO: For the element that you chose, complete the Bohr Model Rough Draft TIME: 6 minutes WHEN DONE: Show your teacher to check off your work and begin building your model

B UILDING THE M ODEL Each model must contain the following: Nucleus- punch a hole in the card On one side write the number of protons and neutrons of the element Other side, write your name and the name of the element Electron Clouds: Use the fruit loops to represent electrons Energy Level 1: 2 electrons fill it, use one pipe cleaner Energy Level 2: 8 electrons fill it, use two pipe cleaners Energy Level 3: 8 electrons fill it, use three pipe cleaners Tie it all together with string, as demonstrated by your teacher.
