Imagine that you are 33 years old. You have a great job and are married with two small children. You are living your ideal life. Describe your life in as much detail as possible. Be sure your description is realistic. Two years have passed. You are now 35. A year ago, you were badly hurt in a major accident. Although doctors say that you will eventually recover, you have been forced to stop working. Your savings are gone because your workplace did not offer disability insurance and your health insurance does not cover the full cost of your medication and rehabilitation treatments. As a result, you have borrowed $15 000 from a bank and $5000 from your parents. How does being burdened with this large debt affect your quality of life? Describe how your life has been affected. The Effects of Debt
26
You are now 45. You are feeling better and have started working again. But finding a good job has been hard because you are older and were unable to keep up your skills while you recovered from the accident. You earn $15 an hour. You have finally started to pay off your debt, but interest charges have increased your bank debt to $18 000 and you still owe your parents $3000. Describe what life is like for you and your family. The Effects of Debt What would you need to do to pay off your debts? Describe how your life would be different if your debts were forgiven. How would society benefit if your debts were forgiven? Think about yourself and the other members of your family (e.g., perhaps your daughter would not need to work after school to help with family expenses and she would be able to focus more on schoolwork).
