22 PE Flex Credit GUIDELINES One PE Credit will be awarded for a complete season of a qualifying flex credit activity. A total of 2 credits, earned over two complete seasons, can be earned at Lewis Cass Jr/Sr High School. A complete season is defined as first practice to final event. The student must remain on the active roster the entire season or the duration of the activity. A student’s PE flex credit may be revoked if it is determined that the student’s participation in a Qualified Flex Credit Activity no longer meets the criteria specified by the coach/instructor, if the student’s attendance becomes irregular, or if the student is suspended or removed from the activity. Forfeiture of credit is up to the discretion of the coach, director, sponsor, or school administrator. Physical Education Flex Credits must be earned prior to a student’s senior year. Since credits will be earned based on mastery of the physical education standards, coaches, directors, and sponsors may choose to work with the student beyond the season until the standards are met. At the conclusion of the season or activity, the coach, director, or sponsor will validate completion on the waiver form. The form must be completed and turned into the guidance office within 2 weeks of the end of the activity. Retroactive credits will not be awarded. It is the student’s responsibility to get the form completed and turned in after completing the activity.

23 PE Flex Credit The guidance counselor or designee will confirm successful participation and place the credit on the student’s transcript as a semester grade. A grade will be awarded to all students who meet the requirements for the flex credit based on the performance evaluation criteria listed below. The student will participate regularly in physical activity, demonstrated by participation in over 95% of group activities while injury free or 75% of group activities due to injury (LCHS athletic trainer or physician signature required). In accordance with IHSAA 18-1 Minimum Course Enrollment and Grades for Participation, physical education credit earned by participation on an athletic team may not count toward academic eligibility. The following events will be eligible for PE waiver consideration: Cross CountryBaseball FootballSoftball Golf (girls, boys) (x2)*Basketball (girls, boys) Marching Band (fall only)Swimming Tennis (girls, boys)Track & Field VolleyballWrestling * indicates that 2 seasons of golf will be required to earn 1 PE credit

25 Grade Scale Policy Changes GUIDELINES All courses earned for credit during the course of a high school student’s career would be included in the calculation of the student’s overall academic GPA as well as their computed GPA for class rank beginning in the 2014- 15 school year. Dual Credit courses would be previously identified by the Lewis Cass Guidance Department and Administration regarding eligibility for additional course weight. Placement in courses would be based on performance on the SAT, PSAT, ACT, or Accuplacer tests as per the Lewis Cass Guidance Department. Weighted scale would be implemented at the end of the 1 st semester of the 2014-15 school year, and adjust any and all AP and/or Dual Credit grades earned by any student currently enrolled at Lewis Cass Jr/Sr High School for the 2014-15 school year. A “W/F” (withdraw/fail) grade would be entered for any student wishing to “drop” a class from their schedule while enrolled at Lewis Cass Jr/Sr High School following a 3-week trial period at the beginning of the 1 st or 2 nd semester of the school year. The administration at Lewis Cass Jr/Sr High School reserves the right to implement prerequisites for any and all AP and/or Dual Credit courses, and well as implement content-area entrance exams, reading lists, or other academic indicators prior to enrollment for any and all AP and/or Dual Credit courses at Lewis Cass Jr/Sr High School. No weight shall be considered when determining eligibility for remedial programs (i.e. Athletic Study Tables). Students will be required to meet existing eligibility guidelines for remedial exemption.
