2 What is a Pronoun? A pronoun is a word that replaces nouns and pronouns, to avoid repetition in sentences. Example: me, him, it, that, all, each He gave Jenifer some roses.

3 The Antecedent of a Pronoun The “antecedent of a pronoun” is the noun or phrase replaced by a pronoun. Example: 1) Lisa gave the coat to Alejandro. 2) She gave the coat to him. 2) She gave the coat to him. The antecedents of a pronoun, in the second sentence are: Lisa, and Alejandro.

4 Different Types of Pronouns The main types of pronouns are: Demonstrative pronouns Personal pronouns Indefinite pronouns Intensive pronouns Interrogative pronouns The main types of pronouns are: Demonstrative pronouns Personal pronouns Indefinite pronouns Intensive pronouns Interrogative pronouns

5 Demonstrative Pronouns ► Demonstrative pronouns point out a specific persons, animals, places, things or ideas. Example: this, that, these, those this, that, these, those 1) This is my pet. 1) This is my pet. 2) I want that.

6 Personal Pronouns ► Personal pronouns stand in for people, places, things and ideas. Example: I, you, she, her, them, us, it. I, you, she, her, them, us, it. 1) She is a doctor. 2) It attacked me.

7 Indefinite Pronouns ► Indefinite pronouns replace nouns without specifying which noun they replace. Example: another, anybody, anyone, anything, both, few, many, others, several 1) Everybody can do something, but nobody can do everything.

8 Intensive Pronouns ► Intensive pronouns end with self or selves and emphasize (intensify) a noun or another pronoun. Example: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, oneself, ourselves 1) The doctor saved the sick boy by himself.

9 Interrogative Pronouns ► Interrogative pronouns are used to begin or introduce interrogative sentences (that ask a question). Example: who, whom, whose, what, and which. 1) Which is your favorite? 1) Which is your favorite? 2) Whom did you date?
