Step 1: Help students develop a topic. Step 2: Once they have a topic, next they should work on developing a research question Step 3: Find resources (Multiple, that’s a fancy word for many, more than one) Step 4: Research. Step 5: Write a summary paper. Step 6: Design display board.

This tends to be one of the hardest steps. Guide students by asking: Is it current? Is it too broad or too narrow? Is it relevant? So what? Who cares? ( I promise, I am not being insensitive) Still can’t get started: Look at Time or Newsweek.
9
Use the guiding questions found on www.gcss.net. www.gcss.net What is the difference between the topic and the question? Topic: Illegal immigration Question: Are they entitled to the same rights that US Citizens have? Students should have at least 3 questions about the topic of their choice.
10
How do I end up with a question? Start with 10 and use the POE method. www.gcss.net provides a good guide to eliminate questions that you can’t use. www.gcss.net Example questions: Are students the age of 16 required to go to school? How many counties are in the state of Georgia? Should slavery be allowed?

I will begin here by saying the media specialist is your friend and the media center will become your home during this process. USE all the sources available to you! Don’t become overly reliant on internet! This process can began as soon as you have an approved question. Students should conduct interviews or surveys if appropriate.
12
What should be in it?: A summary of data An answer to your question LAST BUT NOT LEAST, a bibliography. You must give credit where it is due.
