Protecting Self Hiding behind position Withholding information Intimidating others Hoarding control and revenue Discouraging honest feedback Always separates my team and myself Always compares with others, never content Always distorts the truth into a false sense of security or fear Pride Fear

Life leadership roles, especially those within department families, can at times be our most challenging leadership assignments. Among other things, families serve as a laboratory for teaching us how to apologize and ask for forgiveness. By virtue of our close relationships, we see one another at our best and at our worst. Department members walk with us shaping our heart, head, hands, and habits to be serve. How can I model humility, honesty, and forgiveness within my department?

Implementation Role The leaders becomes a servant of the vision, by serving the people who are being asked to act according to the vision and accomplish the goals.

In the context of leadership, being sure of my individual purpose in relationship to my influence on other people must include serving their best interests or it becomes manipulation and exploitation, the absolute opposite of servant leadership.
