2 What are sex offenders? Individuals who were found guilty of sexual offenses. They found pleasure in making other people suffer.

3 Who can be sex offenders ? A sex offender could be anybody: father mother brother sister

4 Homeless Sex Offender Sex offender living at homeless shelters, must registration data every 45 days

5 Factors about sex offenders Most sex offenders are males Studies have proven that most sex offenders are married or in serious relationships Drugs and alcohol do not cause sex offenses to occur Adolescents are responsible for a great number of rapes each year.

6 Characteristics of Juvenile sex offenders between the ages of 13 and 17 40-80% have history of sexual abuse

7 Laws Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act Megan’s Law

8 Three Levels of Sex Offenders Level 1- “low risk” Level 2- “moderate risk” Level 3- “high risk”

9 Levels……….. Level 1 offenders are required to register for a minimum of 20 years Level 2 and 3 offenders are required to register for life.

10 Nursing Homes It is a crime for level 3 offenders to willingly live in a nursing home.

11 Massachusetts Sex offender Registry Law Sex offenders must provide both permanent address and any “secondary addresses” when they register in a database

12 The Sex Offender Registry Is a database created to list local sex offenders around the area Includes their name, age, and address.

13 Work addresses????? Must register their current and new work address at least 10 before changing employment

14 Penalties of misuse of the registry Can be placed in a correction center for 2 and a half years Pay a $1,000 fine

15 Police Department People can request information concerning a sex offender at their local police station

16 Can’t trick or treat???? California bans sex offenders from participating in the kid friendly holiday called Halloween.

18 Denial Many people wait decades before admitting they had been raped by a sex offender, because they believe it was their fault

20 My option Always try and make sure you hang around people you know and trust. Never meet up with someone alone. If you were attacked by a sex offender, tell an adult you trust so they can get you the help you need.
