2 Labeling Your Maps Fill Out your Scale Fill out Latitude on Maps
1 ½ Inches = 150 Miles Fill out Latitude on Maps Fill In BOTH Degrees and Direction Latitude is North and South Longitude is East and West Draw Your Country on the map as it was on your old map.

3 Map Legends- Political Map
Population Density is People per Square Miles, NOT TOTAL PEOPLE IN CITIES! Small Dot = Small Towns Less 50 People Per Square Mile Medium Dot- Medium Size Town 50 – 125 People Per Square Mile Large, Clear Dot- Large Cities, not the capital 125 – 250 People per Square Mile More people in City = More overcrowded Capital Cities- Must be Named on Map!!

Transportation Transportation in a country is the roads, railroads, and highways that allow people to get around. Don’t worry about cars, etc, worry about what cars get around on… Make sure the roads and railroads are connected to your cities.

Land Cover In the Climate Packet and your atlas, look for your countries location and use the maps on pages to find Land Cover Types of Land Cover Cropland -Tropical Rain Forest Grassland -Semi-Desert/Desert Broadleaf Forest -Needleleaf Forest Glacier -Tundra Mountains -Plains/Basins Hills -Tablelands/Plateaus

Crops Be Specific- Say more than just fruits or vegetables: Which fruits or vegetables? Remember where your country is and your climate when choosing your crops. Do Citrus fruits grow well where it is cold? What do crops need Use the Map on Page 21 to help you. Make sure the crop is in the right area of your country to grow well.

Natural Resources You may need to create a second scale or add boxes for your natural resources Use the map on page 22 of your atlas Remember what kinds of resources are found where? Types of Natural Resources: Coal -Solar, Wind or Water Power Natural Gas -Things you can trade or use Oil -Fishing Uranium -Gold/Silver Livestock -Some crops that can be sold

8 Finding Square Miles Using the rulers measure your countries length from left to right. Below the country from left to right, write down how many inches your country measures and then convert it to miles using the 1 ½ Inches = 150 miles Scale Using the ruler, measure your countries height from top to bottom. On the right side of your country, write down how many inches your country measures and then covert it to miles. Using a Calculator, multiply the two numbers of miles to get the total square miles of your country. Write the Square miles next to the scale on both of your maps.
