5 PCA Minimum Qualifications Amended-April 2008 The basic qualifications for obtaining the state requirements to become eligible to take PCA exam modified Two Pathways exist-degree and non-degreed Experience now considered Flexible Curriculum alternatives

6 PCA Minimum Qualifications: Option # 1 BA/BS with 42 semester hours or 63 quarter hours in either Ag Science; Biological Science; Natural Science; or Pest Management. No Work Experience 2.0 GPA (12 SH of physical & biological science; 9 SH Crop Health; 6 SH Pest Management Systems & 6 SH in Production systems. 9 SH of electives

7 MQ Option # 2 No Degree 42 SH or 63 Quarter Hours same as degree candidates 24 months of combined experience 2.0 GPA Note: 3 SH given if CCA for Crop Health Credit; 24 months experience-various assistant positions; 12 months QAL with category B or K or a structural pest control operator

8 MQ Option # 3 DPR Director has discretionary authority to evaluate industry experience if candidate has a PhD in one of the four degree disciplines Required work experience- none GPA-NA

9 2009 Volatile Organic Compound Emissions-Remake Regulations Require DPR to Establish a Fumigant Limit for NAA that Exceed 80% of the Pesticide VOC Benchmark. Data derived from a calculation involving 1991 emissions and will use non- fumigant emissions for 2007 to determine the fumigant limit for 2009

10 VOC Regulations To reduce VOC’s by 20%, DPR has focused on limiting fumigant emissions, implementing regulations that prohibit higher emitting application methods SJ Valley NAA would have been impacted by the fumigant limit

11 SJ Valley-Summary of Field Fumigant Regulations Licensing: Pest Control businesses must have a person certified in new fumigation category by 1/1/09 Fumigation Methods: “Low- emission” methods required during May-October. Records & Reporting: Pesticide use reports in NAAs include 4-digit fumigation method code. Fumigant limits & allocation amounts(TBD)
