A large ocean wave that is caused by an underwater earthquake, landslide or volcanic eruption. From Japanese language meaning “harbor wave”.

Tsunami’s Warning Signs High magnitude earthquake near a coast or a volcanic eruption. Water receding exposing sea bed.

Tsunami’s Tsunami-genesis When underwater earthquake or landslide displaces a large amount of water. Can travel at speeds of 500 mph in every direction. Travels several miles inland.

Tsunami’s Preperation Research and preparation need to be done before a tsunami occurs. Know where the highest points of land are. Devise a disaster plan. Escape plan Create a meeting point for friends and family members. Have safety material’s pre- packed.

Tsunami’s Summary: Tsunami’s occur when underwater earthquakes or landslides displace large amounts of ocean water. The wave spreads throughout the ocean at speeds up to 500 mph. When it hits the coast it can travel several miles inland.
