Input Source Signal Processor Panel Drive Brightness Contrast
Signal Circuit Summary: Input Source Signal Processor Panel Drive Video Brightness Contrast Sharpness etc Video data Picture TV tuner AV terminal SD card PC input Video Signal Audio Signal Audio Roughly speaking, signal circuit consists of 3 blocks. 3 blocks are, “Input Source”, “Signal Processor” with speaker, and “Panel Drive”. This block diagram is basic and important information. Now let’s start studying about video signal current. Input source receives many type of signal. Signals are for example, TV program ,DVD input and so on. After receiving, these signals are separated to “video signal” and “audio signal” at the “Input Source” block. After separating, both signal are sent to next block, “Signal Processor.” In this signal processor parts, Video signal will be adjusted for example brightness. Video signal is converted to video data and sent to next block, “Panel Drive”. On the other hand audio signal is amplified at this block, and sent to Speaker. Please note this simply block diagram in this service seminar . Speaker Bass Treble Balance Volume Audio Signal Sound

Input source like as TV broadcasting ,will be separated to video signal and audio signal at A board. HDMI is connect to A board directly. On A board, analogue signals are converted to digital signal and sent to D board. On D board, all video signal is converted to “video data” and sent to “Panel drive”. Discharge control of D board supply “scan control pulse” and “Sustain control pulse”. Both will be supplied to each 2 board. On A board, audio signal is amplified and output to speakers, same performance as PA board of 2006 model. Abnormal Picture ( Sound OK )
Where abnormal picture is displayed ? Upper half or Lower half Upper half SU Board ( or D or SC ) Lower half SD Board ( or D or SC ) Both Lower half and Upper half SS Board ( or D ) A) Local Area Left / Right half or Corner Left / Right half C Board ( or D or Panel ) Other case e.g. All over the screen Test Pattern Is normally displayed ? No DG Board or A board or Panel (*1) B) ALL Area Yes This figure is about “abnormal picture” with normal sound. We classify this picture trouble, local area or all area. According to these picture trouble symptom, we can find the defective board by signal flow above. 1st. Picture trouble of upper or lower half ,mainly SU or SD board defect. 2nd.Picture trouble of left half or right half, mainly trouble areas C board defect. 3rd.Picture trouble of both upper and lower half together, its SS board defect. 4th. In case of all area picture trouble, test pattern is useful to diagnose either A board or D board defect. Because test pattern is generated by DG board. Therefore if test pattern is not normal, its DG board defect. If test pattern is normal, this trouble is caused by DG board defect. A Board ( or D ) Note : *1 Panel gas leakage Because of crack or some reason, gas leakage will start. In this picture, gas leakage started at the left top of corner. Finally, gas leakage will lead to “No picture “symptom with buzz noise.

How to judge defective board D or DG.(A :North America)
Trouble at all area (HD model 50 inch) Symptom : No Picture, Picture noise, Vertical line Only PZ type D C C C A or DG SS2 1 All area SU SS D-board defect or A/DG-board defect SC SD SS3 1 C C C 2 This figure is picture trouble in all over screen. (Different point of 50 and 42 is only number of C board) Mainly picture trouble of all area is caused by D board or DG board defect. For North American model, D board or A board defect. Because, if panel driver is defective, for example, C board, it will be local area trouble. So DG or D or SC or SS will be defective. I’ll explain about accurate diagnosis later. How to judge defective board D or DG.(A :North America) D board has Test Pattern. We can judge if DG or D board is failure by using Test Pattern. This symptom is thin vertical line or no lighting 1 block. These 2 symptoms are caused by 1 of driver IC trouble. In this case, when driver IC is trouble, we must exchange the panel. Because IC drivers are installed in the panel. Next, please look at the “case 2” right figure. If 1 C board’s area is defective, we diagnose that either C board’s buffer or D board defect. Because it’s hardly that both driver IC on buffer trouble at the same time. C board defect ratio is lower than that of D board. No Picture (Sound OK) No ALL Input Source Picture NG ? Analog TV NG A Board Only Digital TV NG A Board Yes Only HDMI Input NG A Board When Multi window mode, Right picture NG A Board This sheet is about “No picture” with sound OK. At first, we have to check “all input source” is NG, or “some input source” is NG. If only analogue TV program or only digital TV program is NG, Its their tuner defect or A board signal processing part defect. In multi window condition, if only right side window is troubled, it’s A board defect. Because, sub signal processing part of A board defect. If only HDMI input is NG and another TV program is OK, it’s A board defect. Especially HDMI signal processing part of A board defect. On the other hand, if all input source is NG, You may understand that some of signal processing part is trouble, its not tuner or terminal problem. To diagnosis defective board, removal D5 coupler is recommended. After removing D5 coupler, white pattern will be started automatically. This white pattern is generated in D board. So if you can see white pattern, D board and panel drive are normal and DG board or another previous parts defect. If you can’t see white pattern, its D board or panel drive defect. After this diagnosis, if panel discharge occurs, panel operation is normal with signal problem. White pattern is not generated in this case and its D board defect. If panel discharge does not work, its panel drive side defect. Its SC or SS board defect. When removing D5 coupler, white picture appears ? (*) No No When removing SU Board, lower half picture appears ? No When removing SD Board upper half picture appears ? Sound NG No ALL Input Source Sound NG ? No Only Analog TV NG A Board
Only Digital TV NG A Board Yes Only HDMI Input NG A Board This sheet is about diagnosis of sound NG. Sound NG is caused by A board defect, except speaker defect. Because, A board has both tuner parts and sound signal process parts. So if all input source sound is NG, its signal processing part of A board defect. If some of input source sound is NG, its tuner or input terminal of A board defect. No No sound of all speaker? Speaker or A board Yes A board

Removal D5 coupler Removal/Disconnect <Purpose> <Method>
In case of No picture problem (Sound OK), the defective board is mainly A or D board. But in this case, test Pattern isn’t useful for diagnosis. Because, this symptom can not display OSD and not enter to the Service Mode. This method is possible to judge the defective board in this symptom. <Method> 1. This white pattern is generated by IC9900 on D board. 2. When Power ON after removing D5 connector, white picture is provided to panel drive circuit. Then, white picture automatically appears in normal situation. <Diagnosis> D board (SC or SS) A Board (D board) Defective Board No Picture White Picture Pattern A5 coupler Note: In 2007 model, removal A5 is easier than removal D5 Because D board location is behind the A board. This chapter is about ” removal D5 coupler “. Most of ”No picture” is caused by D board or DG board defect. If you remove D5 coupler with normal condition, white picture will start automatically. Referring to board location (photo), removal A5 coupler is easier than removal D5 coupler. Removal A5 is same meaning as removal D5. Because no signal at D5 terminal. Now, this white pattern is generated in D board. So if both D board and panel drive are normal , we can see this white pattern. In this case ,no picture and these parts above are normal which means DG board defect . If we can’t see white pattern with this removal, D board, panel drive or panel is defective. In some cases, SC or SS board trouble. Therefore its useful to find defective parts roughly.
