EABs Mandate l The IEEE Educational Activities Board (EAB) shall: l Recommend to the Board of Directors policies on educational matters l Implement programs specifically intended to serve and benefit IEEE members in educational pursuits l And the engineering and scientific community, and the general public l Be the IEEE interface in education-related matters with external bodies l Be responsible for administration of the annual assessment paid to ABET, Inc.

Educational Activities Department Staff Update l Yvonne Pelham has been promoted to Manager, Educational Outreach l Chuck Hickman, Director, University Programs joined IEEE in April l Two positions we are working to fill: l Educational Outreach Program Manager l Program Manager, Continuing Education and eLearning

Strategic Program Assessment Retreat and Educational Activities (1) l Purpose: to conduct a strategic assessment of the identified IEEE programs, services and products l The process: l To assess current performance, assuming nothing different will be done l Focus is on the external needs of members/customers l Focus is on results delivered l SPA used a data driven approach l Recommendations will move forward to ExCom and the IEEE BoD

Strategic Program Assessment Retreat and Educational Activities (2) l 24 programs were identified for review l 19 programs were reviewed l A program was defined as a product, service, or set of products and services which are provided or delivered to a specific group of customers/clients/users/members

Strategic Program Assessment Retreat and Educational Activities (3) l Four Educational Activities programs were identified for review: l IEEE Expert Now* l Education Partners Program* l Pre-University Education Outreach* l US Accreditation l *= Programs that were reviewed

Strategic Program Assessment Retreat and Educational Activities (4) l A matrix was used with the following dimensions l Program attractiveness l Competitive position l Alternative coverage l Participants placed one dot (vote) in each dimension

Strategic Program Assessment Retreat and Educational Activities (5) l Eight strategies were used to identify a recommendation for each program l Aggressive competition l Aggressive growth l Orderly divestment l Build strength or sell out l Build up the best competitor l Soul of the organization l Aggressive divestment l Transition to others or joint venture

Strategic Program Assessment Retreat and Educational Activities (6) l What are we asking of you? l At the 21 April Executive Committee meeting it was agreed that the OUs with responsibility for the programs assessed should review the SPA retreat results l Provide input and guidance on how we should move forward in the three programs assessed
