A Creative Drama Program… (M. Mayesky, Text) Creative Drama must relate to children, not please adults by acting out a play. Children need no written lines to memorize or structured behavior patterns to imitate in order to fantasize about their world. One of the best ways for children to express themselves in through creative drama play, because the children are free to express their inner feelings.

True Dramatic play is an important medium for language learning and language fluency. If so why? Because they are experimenting with language and learning how to communicate with each other.

Because their roles tend to center around home and family From participating in dramatic play, children can learn: –Social Development -Emotional Development –Cognitive Development - Language Development –Physical Development - Creative Development This is because a child’s engagement in dramatic play, they are able to develop new ideas, novel solutions to problems, abstract thinking, creativity, flexibility, the ability to communicate, and the ability to get along better with peers.

How can a teacher set up a generic dramatic play center? Some suggested materials for setting up a generic dramatic play center include – full-length mirror, stove, refrigerator, sink, cooking/eating utensils; table and chairs, tea set, telephone, props for cleaning, bed for doll, etc., rocking chair, empty cans, food boxes; dolls/clothes; puppets, postman hat, a variety of hats, nurse cap, play money, cash register, etc. T/F? True The sequence of social development begins with unoccupied/onlooker behavior, then solitary play, parallel play, and finally cooperative play. An example of how a teacher can utilize dramatic play to promote social development: by setting the stage for children spontaneous pretending through providing them with materials to foster dramatic play.

An example of how a teacher can utilize dramatic play to promote emotional development: Is through coaching them and allowing them time to act out what they have been learning. An example of how a teacher can utilize dramatic play to promote cognitive development: Is though teaching them and placing items in the dramatic play area for them to incorporate in their play if they choose to. An example of how a teacher can utilize dramatic play for language development: Is through giving students the opportunity to experiment with words in a creative way. An example of how a teacher can utilize dramatic play to promote creativity: Is to place a variety of different types of props in the dramatic play center for the students to use.

True If dramatic play disintegrates or gets out of hand, a teacher should: (1) redirect the play; (2) extend the play; (3) take roles in the play themselves; and/or (4) stop the play and talk to the children about caring. (G. Morrison, text) Dramatic play involves two types of play: sociodramatic and fantasy. Define sociodramatic play. Is where children are able to act like an adult during dramatic play and express themselves in different roles. Define fantasy play. Fantasy play is where the children are able to play roles that would not be plausible in real life.
