Part (C) : DISCUSSION OUTCOMES

What is Eid-ul-Adha? At the end of the Hajj, Muslims throughout the world celebrate the festival of Eid al-Adha which is also know as Festival of Sacrifice. The celebration of Eid-Ul-Adha is in commemoration of the command give by Allah to Prophet Abraham (may Allah be pleased with him) to sacrifice his first born son Ismail (PBUH) to Him. The fulfillment of this noble command of Allah by Abraham signifies his faith in Allah. It is a 3 day celebration and there is a public holiday in all Muslim countries. It starts with Muslims going to the Mosque for Al- Eid prayer , dressed in their best clothes , thanking Allah for all the blessings they have received and it is also a time when they visit family and friends as well as offering presents . Its special feature is the sacrifice of an animal which is usually a goat, sheep or a camel in memory of the sacrifice offered by Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH). The animal to be sacrificed should be divided into three portions. One is kept for the family, the other is given to relatives, friends, neighbors, and the third part to the poor and the needy.

The act of slaughtering animals and giving it away in the way of Almighty Allah symbolizes our willingness to give up things that are of benefit to us or close to our hearts, in order to follow Allah's commands. It also symbolizes our willingness to give up some of our own bounties, in order to strengthen ties of friendship and help those who are in need. We recognize that all blessings come from Allah, and we should open our hearts and share with others. Eid Greetings: Eid Greetings كل عام وأنتم بخير " Kul 'am wa enta bi- khair !" ("May every year find you in good health!") عيد مبارك " Eid Mubarak!" ("Blessed Eid !" ) عيد سعيد " Eid Saeed !" ("Happy Eid !")

The Story behind Eid ul-Adha
Muslims believe that God revealed in a dream to Ibrahim (A.S)to sacrifice his son Ismail (A.S).Ibrahim and Ismail set off to Mina for the sacrifice. As they went, the devil attempted to persuade Ibrahim to disobey God and not to sacrifice his beloved son. But Ibrahim stayed true to God, and drove the devil away. As Ibrahim prepared to sacrifice his son, at Allah's direction the angel Jibriel(A.S) substituted a lamb for Ismail, after Allah was convinced that Ibrahim would indeed sacrifice Ismail to prove his faith.
