Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Design Studio III Lecturer 6 Project II Criteria deemed essential for the design of the Art Faculty University of Palestine Faculty of Applied Engineering & Urban Planning Dept. of Architecture, Interior Design & Planning

Functional Relations Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Cluian Mhuire School of Art (Ireland) Functional Diagram

Teaching Area Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Angel view of the students should be 15 The maximum distance for the student to sit is 6 times the height The first row: the distance is 2 times the height Horizontal angel is 45 The height of the low base of the board is 1.35 m The stage where the teacher is standing has a height around.6 m & a width between.8—9m Doors are double folding, one opens inwards & the other outwards. Small Storage areas are provided to keep teaching materials

Teaching Area Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Artificial light has to be carefully designed to avoid any reflection and/or shadow. Inner circulation has to be designed allowing the movement to sitting stairs and areas enough for gathering & getting in or out. Acoustic is a key issue that has to be architecturally treated

Teaching Area Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Attached balcony (solid lines), flying balcony (dashed lines) Three flying balconies 2 attached balconies Attached lower balcony, flying upper balcony

Teaching Area Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Typical Orchestra pit lift detail

Teaching Area Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Typical seated spectator Constant Rise Floor Iscidomal floor shapes

Lecturer Theatre – Example: Salford University, UK Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International

Examples Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Stage & Balcony Diagram Layout

Orchestra Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International

Teaching Area (Flat Teaching Area) Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Lecture theatre size has to be designed in a accordance with the number of the students Arrangement of seating area for the students has to be either in linear or curving form allowing a clear sighting of the board Design may have a stage for the teacher with a maximum height of.15m Again, artificial light has to be carefully designed avoiding reflection or shadow

Drawing Halls One wall having large windows with good views oriented to the north (eastern-north or western- north) Black curtains Facilities on the walls to represent drawing within a discussion The colour of walls & the ceiling is white Tables facing external walls have artificial lighting Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International University of Salford Storage methods of drawings

Space planning of drawing halls Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Various planning arrangement of a drawing hall

Sculpting workshop The workshop of pottery has to be ventilated but indirectly to avoid drying of mud The workshop has to be in dry conditions while places for mud storage have to be covered The surfaces have not to be porosity, easy to clean & the floor has a slight slop The storage area for drying of mud is to be located separately Angel of lighting is 65 Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International

Sculpting on wood and material The floor is made of concrete without a slop An area is provided where collected wood is treated before actually starting Material workshop should have a strong floor with a resistance to heat and welding It is preferred to design various activities in one place to avoid spreading of dust Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Combined wood & metal workshop

Example: Workshops Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Sequence of operation: Clay modeling & pottery

China & Mosaic Workshops The china workshop is much similar in its design to that of pottery, except the existence of china rolling machine. Mosaic workshop: - availability of a wooden table for each student - Shelves with a 40 cm depth to keep the work done - Sinks: one for 4 students - One table at least facing the wall to prepare the mosaic pieces for work - Storage area attached to the workshop - Cut branches provided for each student - Source of electricity Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International

Design Criteria for the Museum & Show Halls Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Design Criteria: -The area size is adjusted to items -Good artificial lighting for items -The planning arrangement of spaces is designed without the visitors being bored -Taking care of viewing angel and accordingly viewing distance (see, lect. 5) -Good orientation provided -The separation between visitors' circulation and that of service -Flexibility in design considering future extension Functional relations of Museum & show halls

Theatre Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Functional relations of a theatre space Theatre space is classified into 3: Administration, services & the rest (stage, showing hall, entrance & security Design criteria: Chairs have to be put before line 100 The big view angel is 60 The optimal angel to view actors on stage is 33

Theatre Prepared by Dr. Hazem Abu-Orf, University of Palestine International Design criteria:
