Introduction Korea Game Development & Promotion Institute(KGDI) is
a non-profit organization to promote the game industry as strategic industry for knowledge based information society of the 21st century. KGDI’s primary goal is to support planning, development, producing and marketing, enhancing their specialized capability.

History of KGDI January, 1997
The action plan for the promotion of game industry was completed March, 1998 The action plan was revised to include the Culture Industry Promotion plan The secretariat was launched to plan the establishment of the Korea Game Promotion Center(KGPC) January, 1999 February, 1999 The license for KGPC was issued July, 1999 The opening ceremony for KGPC took place Jan, 2002 Korea Game Promotion Center promoted(renamed) to Korea Game Development & Promotion Institute

Business Goals To play a key role for supporting the game industry by providing comprehensive assistance for planning, designing, producing, education, technological R&D and export promotion. To promote the game industry with global competitiveness to become an essential knowledge industry in 21st century. To achieve over $300 million worth game export and $800 million worth production by 2003

Main Activities Export Promotion
- Assist game developing companies to penetrate international market (participate in international fairs) - Globalization of Korea domestic games (organize investment road show, high-tech seminar, international game market survey, publication of buyer’s guide) Localization of Korea game to market China, Japan and U.S.A (support leading game developing companies to make local language version)

Human Resources Assistance and Development
- Develop education content and training course for the production of graphic design, scenario development and programming - Promote the exchange of professors with overseas game education and training institutes and organizations - Two-way communication from remote locations - Online lectures and tutorials

Technical Assistance Operate a game rental facilities - Operate a Research Center - Operate an online publishing system

Investment Support - Operate an investment cooperative to secure financing for new projects. Provide incubating service to game developers who have commercial potential, technological eminence.

Information Service - Operate a library and information center of game technology, products and services Provide updates on industry trends, policy changes and other relevant information about the industry

- Support the creation of game related venture businesses - Promote game culture by sponsoring game competition - Improve laws and regulations to promote and protect game development - Promote corporation with provincial governments and international co-operation
