2 Email Tips 1) The subject line should contain a clue as to what the email is about. Do not write complete sentences in the subject line. 2) Make sure your email includes a courteous greeting and closing (helps make the email not seem demanding or terse) 3) Greet your contact with an appropriate level of formality

3 Email Tips (cont.) 4) Address the person and yourself specifically 5) Spell check your email before sending 6) Read your email aloud to yourself to make sure it sounds the way you intend 7) “Please” and “thank you” go a long way towards resolving a situation

4 Email Tips (cont.) 8) Make sure to use proper sentence structure, i.e. capitalize the first word of a sentence, apply appropriate punctuation (ending sentences with !!! or ??? is not appropriate) 9) Use properly signature and closing 10) Type in the email address last
