Deep Certainty 1 John 5:1-4
2
1 John 5:1–4 (ESV) 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.
3
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.
4
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
5
4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
6
1 John 5:1–4 (ESV) 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.
7
Certainty: You are born of God, if you believe Jesus is the Christ
8
1 John 5:1 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.
9
John says the second certainty that we know we are born of God is we love the others born of God.
10
1 John 2:29 (ESV) If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
11
He states that being born of God leads to right behavior.
12
1 John 3:9–10 (ESV) 9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
13
Being born of God, also prevents one from habitually sinning without conviction.
14
1 John 4:7 (ESV) Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
15
So the third deep certainty is that being born of God causes one to love others
16
1 John 5:1 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him.
17
Our faith changes our behavior. Our faith enables our love. And our faith empowers our victory over sin.
18
1 John 4:20 (ESV) If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
19
Deep Certainty 1 John 5:1-4
20
Matthew 25:45 (KJV) “Inasmuch as ye have done it not unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
21
1 John 5:2 (ESV) By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.
22
2 John 6 (ESV) And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.
23
Romans 3:23 (ESV) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24
1 John 5:3 (ESV) 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
25
We can have deep certainty that we can overcome everything opposed to God because we have faith in Jesus Christ and love for the father demonstrated by our obedience.
