All rights reserved. 2 What they do…  Broadcast technicians set up, maintain, and upgrade electronic equipment needed for broadcasts.  They monitor and regulate the audio and video quality of a webcast, radio, or TV broadcast.  They operate a control panel with monitors from different cameras and choose which signal to use in the broadcast.

All rights reserved. 3 Knowledge…  Broadcast technicians must have knowledge of set lighting and techniques for video broadcasts.  They must have knowledge of microphones and sound systems for sound broadcasts.  They must have knowledge of computer software, digital processing, and recording processes for all types of broadcasts.

All rights reserved. 6 Working Conditions…  Broadcast technicians work in high pressure situations, especially when dealing with live broadcasts.  They sometimes have to travel and set up their equipment for remote broadcasts.  They often work long hours editing tape- delayed broadcasts.

All rights reserved. 7 Training required…  Broadcast technicians can receive entry- level training in a technical school or community college with on-the-job training.  A college degree in broadcasting or electronics may insure better starting positions and salary.
