2. A young man confronts an elderly lady on the street and demands her money. Afraid for her safety, she gives him her purse and he runs away. Her purse contained 100 shekels and pictures of her children and grandchildren. The woman still has her cell phone, and she calls the police with a description of the young man. When they see him on the street, he throws the purse down the sewer and tries to blend into the crowd. But the police arrest him and the woman identifies him. He is convicted after a trial.  Compare: same case, but…. suppose the young man used a knife to slash her arm as he grabbed the purse and ran. He throws both the knife and the purse down the sewer drain. He is convicted after pleading guilty.

3. A young woman uses her computer to post a website advertising special medicine to help sick dogs. She works for a veterinarian. She makes a list of people who own sick dogs that the veterinarian has said he cannot help. She emails everybody on the list, urging them to go to the website to learn about a revolutionary treatment to cure their dogs. Many people who love their dogs and will do anything to help them send her 500 shekels for the special food containing the medicine, which of course does not exist and which they never receive. The young woman collects 25,000 shekels before the veterinarian finds her list of the owners of dying dogs. With suspicion that she is the source of complaints he has heard from some of his clients, he investigates and finds her emails and website. To protect his good name with his clients, he tells the police and she is arrested. Of course she loses her job. She says she feels terrible and wants to apologize and give the money back.
