Eidetic Imaging for Runners Get the most out of your Run Recover, Avoid Injury, Maximize Efficiency

The Goal of this program is to experience pleasure as a natural result of movement Movement is a spontaneous sign of life which means running is an ultimate expression of joy and excitement. Children run with exuberance and excitement and with boundless energy. As adults we often lose the spontaneity and desire we felt as children and substitute intentional or programmed activity. Whether you are recovering from an injury, dealing with a nagging symptom, or simply want to enjoy your run more, Eidetic Images offer a return to the original state of “jumping for joy”.

What is an Eidetic Image? It is a picture in the mind that evokes a feeling in the body An image is Eidetic if it connects the unseen essence of mind (Gk: Eidos) with physical experience, reality. It is a primary source of information It is a blueprint for action

Why seeing? We think in images more effectively than words Eyes are sense organs, they take in information for processing in the brain The senses, seeing, smelling, hearing, touching, tasting offer direct ways of knowing, they occur before any internal processing (such as thinking) changes them. Sensation is the raw data of the mind

How does an Eidetic Image work? Shows current states of awareness and readiness Targets source of symptoms Is an access point to potentials of health Operationalizes the mind – prepares the body for action

Why is this important for running? Because muscles and movements are initiated by signals in the brain, the entire activity is present and programmed before any visible movement occurs The image shows this organization, shows what action is available It also shows gaps, potentials that are not currently activated Working with the Eidetic Image can activate “biolatent” potentials and produce CHANGE in activity

How does this process work? Image instructions direct your attention and help your mind focus A picture will appear in your mind. (sometimes clear, sometimes vague, sometimes you experience more of a sense or feeling of an image) As you concentrate on this picture in a relaxed manner, you will experience a feeling in your body. (this may be distinct, vague, or absent at first, give it time) Continued observation of the image will reveal an understanding of what is being seen (this may take some time and repeated projections, be patient)

What do I do first? “Get Ready” Project an image using the image instructions Explore the image you see and notice the body response (it’s a hologram, you can move around in it, examine it from all angles, scan it for new information and a body response will develop along with the image) Stay with it till the image shows you more information, an understanding will develop

Repeat the Image Repeat the image many times, it will deepen and move, showing you more and more New awareness will become available Repeat the image deeply daily “Keep the image in mind” occasionally throughout the day

What’s next? “Get Set” Do the image as you begin a stretch or warm up. Start by moving into the stretch only to the level of awareness Begin the image As you complete the image, move further into the stretch If the stretch becomes painful, back up to the last comfortable awareness and repeat the image

Go! Move into your exercise “Keeping the Image in Mind” Enjoy!
