KNOW YOUR ELEMENTS
3
LINE A mark made on a surface that has length and direction.
4
LINE
5
SHAPE A two-dimensional enclosed area, or object.
6
COLOR Isaac Newton discovered that white light (from the sun), when refracted through a prism, would break up into it’s separate colors (ROY G BIV).
7
COLOR WHEEL Colors are divided into groups or “schemes”. Primary Secondary Tertiary/Intermediate Complementary Analogous Warm /Cool
8
VALUE THE LIGHTNESS OR DARKNESS OF A COLOR. YOU USE IT TO SHADE OBJECTS TO LOOK 3D, CREATING FORM.
9
Shading light to dark, allows you to create shadows and highlights. Thus, creating form.
10
USING VALUE To create form, you MUST shade with the curvature of the object.
11
FORM Three-dimensional shapes or objects. Value is used to create form in painting and drawing.
12
TEXTURE The tactile quality of a surface. It can be actual or implied.
13
TEXTURE
14
SPACE The illusion of depth & distance. Types of space: a) Positive/Negative b)Linear c)Atmospheric
15
POSITIVE / NEGATIVE SPACE THE AIRPLANE IS NEGATIVE THE TREE IS POSITIVE
16
NEGATIVE SPACE The cut outs are negative and the left over dough is positive.
17
Linear Perspective SPACE
18
Filippo Brunelleschi The first known paintings done in linear perspective were created in 1425 by Filippo Brunelleschi (1377 – 1446) Brunelleschi noticed that when he painted the lines of several Florentine buildings in a mirror, they converged at one point along the horizon line.
19
ONE-POINT
20
TWO-POINT
21
ELLIPSES
22
ATMOSPHERIC PERSPECTIVE MOUNTAINS APPEAR LIGHTER, BLURRIER AND COOLER IN COLOR.
23
AMOSPHERIC PERSPECTIVE FOREGROUND- Objects larger and warmer in color. Objects get smaller & higher up on the picture plane, as they get farther away. BACKGROUND- Colors get cooler & objects get blurrier

KNOW YOUR PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN Balance Contrast Emphasis Rhythm Movement Proportion Unity Pattern
26
BALANCE Balance is a feeling of equality or stability in a piece of artwork. There are three types: 1.Symmetrical 2.Asymmetrical 3.Radial
27
SYMMETRICAL
28
ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE
29
RADIAL
30
CONTRAST ACHIEVED BY USING DIFFERENT ELEMENTS IN AN ARTWORK TO CREATE INTEREST
31
EMPHASIS … is the focal point in an artwork, or the most important part BECAUSE IT STANDS OUT!
32
Emphasis
34
RHYTHM Rhythm is created when similar elements repeat, creating a sense of movement. Repeating elements do NOT have to be exactly alike.
38
MOVEMENT …is the way the human eye travels through an artwork in a particular direction.
42
UNITY.. is when SIMILAR elements work together to create harmony (mood, style, or theme).
45
PROPORTION … is the comparative relationship of one part to another, such as the size, amounts, or number of elements in an artwork
46
PORTRAITURE
47
LINE OF SYMMETRY (VERTICAL ) EYE-LINE (HORIZONTAL)
48
PERSPECTIVE DRAWING
49
You should end up with something like this: PRACTICE DRAWING ONE-POINT BOXES
50
PRACTICE DRAWING TWO-POINT BOXES
51
PRACTICE DRAWING TWO-POINT TRIANGLE
52
PRACTICE DRAWING TWO-POINT PERSPECTIVE BUILDING
