1 Summary on Maidanak Users activity: 1yr after Mansur Ibrahimov, Shuhrat Ehgamberdiev UBAI, Tashkent 2 nd Maidanak Users Meeting, June 21 2010

2 Resume of the 1 st meeting (SNU Korea):  Uninterrupted power supply  Stable internet connection  Telescopes: mirror recoating  Improving of living conditions: transportation, dormitories, water supply technician and night assistance teams

3 Maidanak: telescopes and instruments 6 telescopes: 1.5m, 1m, 4x60cm (4 of them in operation) 5 CCDs: SI 600 Series 4K, SITe 2000x800, 2x FLI IMG 1K, SBIG ST9-XE 0.5K Direct Imaging only (in optic), No IR No Spectra

4 Stable Internet: done !  2007-2010: extremely hard paperwork  Satellite based VSAT system, www.steccom.ruwww.steccom.ru  Owner: AstroTel Ltd, Boris Satovski (under agreement with UBAI)  8 MB/sec down, 384 KB/sec up (chargeable down/up)  Cost estimation: 1 GB/month for US$ 700

5 Telescopes: recoating - partially done  June 2009- June 2010: recoated at Okayama Obs., Japan 60 cm 48 cm  Funding: JSPS+NAOJ+Okayama (1 wooden box, 2 mirrors, round-trip shipment)  Not yet recoated: 1.5 m 1.0 m 2 more 60 cm

6 Telescopes: cleaning – two 60cm  June 2009 – 60cm mirror at Zeiss600-Kiev  October 2009 – 60cm mirror at Zeiss600-Moscow  October 2008 – 1.5m mirror at AZT-22 (~1mag deeper) (next cleaning – fall 2010 or fall 2011)

7 Telescopes: reflectance as of Oct 2009  1.5m – > 80 %  1.0m – < 50 %  2x60cm – 65-75 % (Okita Kiichi-san, Okayama Obs.)

8 Uninterrupted Power Supply: no changes  Governmental supply: failed and becoming more trouble year by year  Diesel + oil supply: the ONLY way for Maidanak Users  Current cost estimations in US$ : Diesel - 50-60K Oil supply – 40K (for 40 tons)

9 Uninterrupted Power Supply: 60cm scopes  Individually Power Supplied Scopes (using powerful battery): Zeiss600-Kiev – almost done Zeiss600-Moscow – in project for 2010 (Artamonov and Magnitskii, SAI Russia) FYI: Individually Power Supplied system had been already realized at AstroTel-Maidanak Telescope (AMT-1) Satovski (AstroTel Ltd)

10 Living conditions: no changes  Transportation problem: Tashkent-Samarkand by train – no problem Samarkand-Maidanak – still a problem need 2 cars (at least) for transportation/logistic  Dormitories: 2 dormitories need to be reconstructed and/or repaired  Water supply: still primitive (bringing by truck from the spring) 5-6 times/year no regular shower, no WCs

11 Tech and night ass teams: no changes  1.5m scope: 1 regular night assistant from Kitab 2-3 visiting observers/month (summer-fall seasons)  1m scope: no regular program, no assistant at all  two 60 cm scopes: 1 episodically observing assistant from Tashkent 1-2 visiting observers/month (summer-fall seasons)  Technician team: 5 people managed by Abbas Aliev

12 Summary of 1yr activity:  Internet – done  Recoating – 1 mirror done, 4 mirrors not yet  Power supply – nothing changed, currently ~100K$ individually buttery supplied system ?  Living conditions – nothing changed: transportation, dormitories, water  Tech+ night ass teams – nothing changed: the both teams should be enlarged
